Program Mandate

To continue to provide youth with experiences in musical theatre through ongoing year long programming in singing, acting and dancing

To develop performance skills through the performance of a scripted show open for public performance

To assist youth in learning about all aspects of theatre production: stage and production

 

Geared to Youth Ages 8-13

Cost: $450.00 (Cheque Payable to Theatre Ancaster, postdated for Sept 1, 2007) or

             $225.00 x 2 (2 Cheques postdated upon registration for Sept 1, and Nov. 1, 2007)

Broadway Program
Time: Saturdays 9:30 am -12:00 pm
Dates: September 2008 - January 2009
Ages: 10 - 13
Cost: $450.00
A focus on presenting a full-scale musical in January 09. Program emphasis of singing, dancing and acting will be achieved through direction and choreography related to mounting a show. Past shows include Seussical Jr. and Dear Edwina Jr. Performed at The Westside Concert Theatre.

Skill Builders Program
Time: Saturdays 1 pm - 3 pm
Dates: September 2008 - December 2008
Ages: 7 - 9
Cost: $250
A focus on developing essential theatre skills required in the production of a show. Program emphasis of singing, dancing and acting will be achieved through skill based activities, resulting in a Holiday presentation in mid-December at the Old Firehall Arts Centre that includes all the students equitably.
If junior students are required for the Broadway program, this will be done through invitation at no extra cost.

Staff

Nupi Gokhale Lapsley – Director of Youth Programming
Nupi is the Director of Youth Programming for Theatre Ancaster.  She has her B.A.H. B.Ed, and is a high school drama teacher in the Grand Erie District School Board.  Apart from teaching, Nupi directs her high school’s annual spring musicals, and is usually involved in Theatre Ancaster’s mainstage productions as well as the Board of Directors.  This fall she will be directing Theatre Ancaster’s Beauty and the Beast while overseeing the Stage 2 and Stage 3 youth programs of the company. She is the proud mother of three children, all who have participated in our theatre programs.

Krista Cranston – Director/Music Director
This is Krista’s third year as program director for Stage 2 Saturdays. She is the lifeblood of our program, and has been involved with Theatre Ancaster for many years now as an instructor and as a performer.  She is a graduate of The Randolph Academy for Performing Arts and is a current student at Redeemer University with hopes of pursuing teaching.  Krista also teaches vocal music and drama at Avalon Music Academy. Most recently Krista has appeared in Cabaret and The Full Monty at the Westside Concert Theatre, along with You're a Good Man Charlie Brown with The Essential Players.

Mandy McDougall – Choreographer/Dance Instructor
Mandy is returning for a third year working as Stage 2 Saturdays Choreographer and Dance Instructor.  She is also a dance instructor for Stage 2 Jitterbugs Summer Program.  Mandy is a second year environmental sciences student at McMaster University, and is heavily involved in the performing arts.  She has both choreographed and performed in many local productions, as well as danced for 17 years.

Shavaun Browne
This will be Shavaun’s 2nd year working as a Stage 2 Saturdays staff member.  She is also a member of the Stage 2 Summer Jitterbugs staff.  She is heavily involved in musical theatre productions, been on the Theatre Ancaster stage for many years as a youth in the mainstage shows, and studies vocal music and piano at Avalon Music Studios.  Shavaun started as a camper in the Stage 2 Junior/Intermediate/Senior Camp. She has most recently been Dorothy in Theate Ancaster's Young Company production of The Wiz and the lead in High School Musical at Brebeuf Secondary School.
